Hi all,
I've been looking at buying one of the fusiles offered by derby arms and was wondering if people had any experience with them. They look lovely! The other thing is that I've been under the impression that Derby produce their own firelocks, is this correct? I ask because someone on anoth forum I frequent suggested the fusile was an Indian replica (because he 'recognised the carving' which frankly seemed like a stupid comment to make about a replica military firearm).
Thanks in advance.

gary of derbyshire arms does manufacture one off guns but also imports in my opinion the largest selection of pistols and longuns in matchlock, wheellock, flintlock and percussion . and can convert most pistols and longuns to blank firers.the french fusil you are interested in is an indian import.i have had a few pass through my hands and they have all been very good lock wise and have sparked well.the french 1728 is another nice looking gun which is as light and well balanced as the french fusil.

A lot of the 1728's have had dodgy locks, mine had a soft frissen and it wouldn't return. It went back to Gary and he sorted it. Some of Dillon's (LW) have exactly the same problem and when I looked at them there was a variation in the castings, hence the problem. The fusils are good, I know one has a problem with a huge curly length of swarf that was still attached after tapping the breech plug thread. We found this out after it wouldn't fire and the swarf had moved across the touch hole. Bl**dy dangerous as if it had come out....................ouch!!!! If you are buying a gun take some one with you know knows their stuff to check it over.

the problem with the frizzens has nothing to do with the casting, all the guns from india need the frizzens facing and rehardening as they come from the manufacturers rough faced and soft.

These were different at the bottom where they go against the frissen spring, the lug was a completly different shape. This meant that no matter where the flint struck the frissen it jammed as it sprung back as the arc was wrong.

Hi all, me back again after a few busy months. I was wondering whether anyone had compared the Derbyshire arms fusile to the one sold by Henry Krank. How do they compare in terms of both shooting and finish quality?

the blank firing guns made by gary bates have just been classified as firearms by the police so anyone who has them should not take them out in public until what action the police are going to take is known.a friend has been sent a copy of the report and this is not a rumour it's fact.he asked us to pass it around to anyone who owns one.

Doctorsyn
Could you give me a bit more info on this new classification, you mention police and a report is the report public??

no the report is not public at the moment it was only sent out in limited numbers last week.the police forensic laboritory managed to load a confiscated blank firing pistol and dischargit against forensic gell the buckshot penetrated to a depth of 4 cm's and so they were clasified as section one firearms.so i suppose that anything with a barrel over 24 inches converted to blank firing will be clasified as a shotgun.the advice is do not take the blank firing weopons out in public or return them to the supplier who should give a complete refund.and beware ignorance is no defence in the eyes of the law so anyone who owns these conversions please use common sense until the police decide how to proceed.
