I'm already digging big pits in the garden and the council say that a 100 square foot smelting shop in a residential area shouldn't be 'too' much of a problem......!!!!
Have always wanted to actually cast a small Bronze or Brass piece, from start of procedure to end product..........perhaps one day eh..??

At the risk of being thought a complete nerd,I cast a model siege mortar in my metalwork class about 35 years ago.......... Built the carriage in woodwork & used it as my cse project for both.......... Steve

So how do i go about casting a small Brass piece of about the two foot length then Steve....?? Are we still talking the same principal as in the link above on cannon barrel making..?
I once saw an interesting prog on gun barrel casting in a seige, big fire chuck the furniture and the Castle cat on the fire, melt all the kings best metal bits etc.

Of course I had the advantage that the small scale let me drill the bore out without finding industrial-type drilling equipment AND I seem to remember (advantage of scale again) turning the master out of wood on a lathe......
