:oSeems almost too good to be true...I was forwarded the following email from friends in 85eme. You MUST (that's an order), have a gander at their website: http://www.reconstitution.fr...may take a while to load, but it's absolutely excellent!!!
Comments, suggestions: can the committee advise if you require contact details and i'll supply them straight away.
ps swimming in the river during the evening!!!!
Hello there
Heres some info to help you
The venue is the Chateau de Laas, near Pau in in south west France
it is organised by Les Sentiers D'Histoire, a french reenactment group, there is a website-www.reconstitution.fr
the setting is supposed to be canada
it started as a living history of the Regiment de Bearn (the old name for the region is Bearn)who were one of the regiments fighting in canada in the seven years war
more recently they decided to portray indians and british in order to have skirmishes etc
you have a choice which unit you want to join there are the french and british regulars but you can also be in the militia(civilian dress)on either side.(all the french want to be in the regt de bearn so you have to work up to that paul)
the organisation will pay fuel costs and motorway tolls but would like there to 2/3 person per car to keep costs reasonable especially coming from holland or belgium.they will pay for flights from britain to Pau(Ryan air I think?)
its better if you can provide your own flintlock musket -a bess or charly, your own shoes, and tent and living history stuff if you have it
uniforms and leatherwork are provided
the event is from 1st to 15th August, the organisers want a minimum stay of 1 week. You can have time of to visit the area if you want
thats about all i can think of for now , contact me for anything specific- i may be able to help
cheers Chris M
ps did i mention swimming in the river every evening before apperatifs and dinner -genial
