Lace Wars have been contacted by the makers of the new film for the Culloden visitor centre. The idea is that the film will be shown in an immersion theatre. This is room where the film is shown from four angles all at the same time, after being shot from four camera angles, and hence creates the image that you are actually in the battle.
The filming takes place on 16/17 march for Jacobites and 17/18 March for Redcoats. The location is Lauder south of Edinburgh. Overnight accommodation, and food will be catered for and there is a small amount of expenses. Lace Wars are doing this because we feel it is a must rather than a want to. We are the best 1745 group in world and it is important to us that we are involved.
The film company has been in communication with me, and we have had long and detailed discussions about quality of kit, attitude of re-enactors etc. What they/we are not looking for are biscuit tin Highlanders, with civil wars shirts, Hunting Stuart plaids, work boots, and claymores. Other groups have come forward and are involved in this project and to date all of them seem to be of the highest quality.
All of Lace Wars’ military units are involved in this project but we are looking for more people to attend. Therefore this is an invitation to the members of NFOE, as I know your quality. The 13th and 36th are already attending, but we are looking for members of the “Watch” if any of you want to come along you would be very welcome. We are also looking for more Jacobites, we can provide some kit, but you must have your our musket. Cross dressing is allowed but you will only be in the distant shots for obvious reasons.
This is not a big paying film job, but the opportunity to get involved in a very important project. The film will be shown in the new visitor centre, any thing up to 20 times a day for the next 20 odd years. Even Brad Pitt doesn’t get that many showings! You will be famous, you will be seen by hundreds of thousands of visitors who go to the site of the last battle on British soil.
Please note this invitation has not gone out to groups who “think” they can portray members of the 18th century. The selection process has been pretty rigid.
If you are interested in attending, have at least the basic kit (shirt, shoes, leatherwork, musket, possibly small sword or hanger) drop me a mail, or give me a call. Rose and Thistle (RAT – my Regt within Lace Wars) has a certain amount of kit that we can loan out but it will be on a first come first serve basis.
Any one attending via this invitation will be under my supervision, and that of my officers. Any of you who were at Kedleston Hall or RGPM last year will know what a relaxed lot the RaT people are.
I look forward to hearing from you.
