We are really looking forward to this event, which is probably one of the most important in this years calender.
This is a great opportunity to show off NFOE in all it's varied forms, both civilian and military. No one has ever reenacted at this venue before and it should be noted that GWH is a working museum for our period.
So we are looking forward to maximum support from our members to take advantage of this great opportunity.
So with this in mind can we all please take extra care on our presentation and attention to detail. This can only benefit the reputation of NFOE.
Now we have all dried off. I look forward to seeing you at the GWH. ;D

This is a fantastic venue but we need everyone's support if we are to make a success of this opportunity. We are the very first re-enactment group ever to be invited here so it is a chance we must take fully. So all of you out there who we haven't seen at an event so far this year - make sure you start your season here!!

I missed the warning order :-(( so it was suggested that I post here instead:
The House itself will be occupied by civilians as if it is a small town house of 1757 in Pennsylvania- the kitchen will be set up as a town kitchen of the period, textile production (spinning, sewing etc.) will take place in the Great Parlour and the Little Parlour will house the gentlemen and ladies with more civilized occupations. Please contact Judith (jfd@shslib.demon.co.uk or 01983 616734) for more details.
Any civilians (male or female) who would like to spend some time in the house are very welcome. Town houses often played host to refugee families during the skirmishing season so we can have a number of different people in the house.
Members of the civilian unit of Lace Wars have been invited to increase our numbers, with of course the possibility of new members of NFOE!
Best wishes,
Judith

Now there's a thing!
If you have been wondering exactly who Gilbert White was - well now's your chance to find out. With perfect timing BBC2 are showing a documentary about him tomorrow (Tues 12th June) starting at 23:20. And with any luck they'll be a chance to see the grounds where we will be setting up camp and playing!
Your caring sharing Communications Officer!!

I watched the Gilbert White programme last night. In particular I liked the long necked owl, the hooky bodied eagle, and the "that colour never appears in nature" pointy bill bird.
Take my advise and take some felt tips with you. Draw your own birds, but look at some real ones first to get at least a rough idea of what they look like.

Judith I noticed on one of the other threads that you ahve invited the MM to this event. In order to do this you must get one the NFOE committee to send me a formal invite.

I very much regret that I shall be unable to support this event. I shall be overseas with my work.

Tod, some of us take our living history seriously:-) If you were to come to Gilbert White's House you may surprise our artists (with correct 18th century sketching supplies) re-enacting the naturalists who travelled to the colonies and spent their time studying and describing in word and art the incredible flora and fauna of this new land. All part of the NFOE! Best, Judith

Sorry to be the voice of reason, but I can see a case for both opinions. I totally agree we should take things serious, but lets not forget some humor. I've been talking to some re-enactors from Belgium and they kept repeating we should not make our own history. Although they are right, to hear that every two or three minutes its wearing extremely thin extremely fast. There was absolutely no sense of fun there. To me that seems more like torture, and a total waste of time.

Show up, Try your utmost to accurately represent the period your trying to re enact, in the evening sip nasty beer or other such dangerous thingytail until your head falls off, have a right old laugh with your mates, don't take life too seriously, get up in morning, do your utmost again, go home leaving public wanting more. If your having a problem with any of the essentials above then i'm afraid i'm just going to have to shoot you , which will make a change from shooting Daves wig.

Aaaargh, not Dave's wig!!! I keep getting flashbacks to hiding under the sofa when Doctor Who was battling the Yeti in the London underground!
