I have to recommend the newly released Marie Antoinette. The sets and costumes are brilliant. Those who need films to feature at least one car chase may be disappointed, but it is visually stunning, and left me wanting to rush out to Waitrose to buy lots of cake.

They wear cakes on their feet? No wonder I don't do civilian re-enactment.

Not a new film, but Can anyone remember Dangerous Liaisons? Valmont's costumes are an inspiration! Mind you, I don't think Glen Close had the face for an 18th Century Frenchwoman.

Whatever happened to Spencer Tracey's film 'Northwest Passage'? That hasn't been on TV for years and years. I think that was the first film that introduced me to the French and Indian War.

I presume that the "Northwest Passage" movie has some great problem about originals filming traces. is available only in VHS, and actually no planning to sort out on DVD. I hope somebody plan for the resturation of the filming. altough unhistorical is a great adventure movie, and his part of my childhood. my VHS copy, recorded at home, is useless because I have seen it so many times that it doesn't work any longer. Some time back we were talking about the 1940s movie 'Northwest Passage' about Rogers' Rangers. I have just been looking on eBay and a couple of dealers are selling ccopies from VHS onto DVD of the movie - one is selling at £3.99 and the other at £4.50. They say the quality is good but it is cheap so I have given it a go and ordered one just now. One dealer has 4 left and the other has 5.
Cheers Ian
