For various reasons Rockingham isn't ideal for us. How do you feel about Le Rat coming to Bentley? It's tentative at the moment but I want to put an idea to the boys and girls.

I thought it best to check. This is at the Wildfowl Park and Car Museum? Living history camp and skirmish?

Hi Tod
Yes, Wildfowl Trust and Motor Museum on site. It is an excellent site - one of the best we have seen for French & Indian War. We were there last year 'on the flat' but having explored the site we found the woods and decided it is a must for 2009. It will be living history camps, show 'n' tell display and full woodland skirmish which is very likely to develop into a Braddock-type ambush.

Hi Everyone
As mentioned in the last Outpost, the next one will be a little later than usual but it will also include the Warning Order for Bentley. If anyone is in a desperate hurry for the Warning Order it will be available to be emailed out from Monday if you contact me. Otherwise it should be with you by the end of next week.
There was another site meeting today and I confirm everything is on course for a fantastic weekend - we have our woodland skirmish as promised and what's more there is going to be a beer tent too! It is a much bigger event than last year - part of their annual 'Hands on History' event and should mean a lot more visitors. The Show 'n' Tell is scheduled for 1.00pm on both days with the skirmish at 3.30 - the grand finale of the show!!
Don't miss it - Tod, do we have Le Rat joining us?
Cheers
La Plume

A quick note on the beer tent, when at the meeting last week it seems that it closes when the barman falls offr his chair and cant get up again. Also it appears that the lables on the bottles are a little 'top shelf' so to speak....who's up for the set

mmm- first I was a witch (well, I think is was a w..) then a dragon now apparently I'm a devil :-)
The ears of the French are not that long- what you actually heard was Lucy 'Vive la France' ...click.
BTW:
Blue Sausages proved very popular so here's the basic 18th reciept:
Take a red cabbage and soak it in water for at least one hour.
Remove, shred and lay in pot with one pint of stock, Cook for 10 minutes Add sausages (of any kind but German sausages taste good) and cook until done Add a small abount of cider vinegar during last few minutes of cooking
The sausages will turn blueish,as a reaction with the red cabbage but taste v. good.
one can add onions, chopped very small and/or apples in season to the stock and cabbage- enjoy!
Red Cabbage was apparently being grown in North America in the mid 18th century, possibly not only by the colonists but by some Native groups as well.
Best,
Judith
PS. I would suggest that you don't cook red cabbage in brass or copper pans unless they are well-tinned, and don't leave red cabbage in cast iron pots for too long i.e. don't store leftovers (if there are any) in the cooking pot :-)

Barbara and I will be arriving early Saturday morning. Sadly Robert is on holiday this weekend so wont be coming. But he sends his regards and I have something to present to the Royal Americans on his behalf.
See you all there. David
