Well, I thought that was a d**ned good event. Great site, good camping a good battlefield, and a pub very close - excellent. Well done to Will for finding the site and getting the event - it was their first ever battle re-enactment. Those of you who were there know how pleased the site management were - so if all goes according to plan we will be back there next year - in June.
The battle on Saturday lacked a bit - as Saturday battles often do - but we ironed out the problems and took steps to improve it on Sunday and I thought - from my position as commentator - that it looked excellent. Actually there was so much going on in different parts of the field that it was a struggle to describe everything! I was standing right in amongst the crowd and those around me were all talking about how much they enjoyed the show. Well done to everyone who took part.
So, just one event left now - at Stamford. The Warning Order will be out in the next couple of days.
See you there.

Yep a great weekend, saw the pub social was great and back at the campfires everyone was having a laugh too. Sundays public turnout was great and really added to the atmosphere. Also thanks to everyone who made Hugh feel so welcome, he was taken aback by just how kind and friendly everyone was in the Society, he had such a great time he's bunked off work today to recover! Anyway as a result we now have a spare Marine that we don't really want, he's a bit 'used', but he's got a healthy appetite, can be wheeled out to add a bit grit to any unit, needs regular watering but easy to exercise, a bit on the large size, probably got a couple of good years left in him, smells a bit doggy especially when he gets wet, call Geoff if interested, I'll throw in his lead and food bowl.

Beautiful Site - Epic Potential for future gigs. Would most definitely like to return there. Lots of space and great potential to improve on the camp layouts. I personally believe we could have used the expanse of space a lot better to show more realistic camps. It's what were contracted to do afterall. I was very impressed at the French tentage hiding in the tree line Sneaky Sneaky Frenchies!!!! I was suprised at how small the battlefield was? Was this restricted by the site/Sponsor? I only ask as Saturday felt a bit 'squashed'. No matter where you were on the field it felt like you were in the oppositions pocket. Good simple and effective script. A nice simple crowd pleaser. I did like the booing at the French by the crowd on Saturday A good British Crowd!!!! Overall, SJ and I had an agreeable Saturday. Shame we missed the Sunday. Look forward to returning.

Hi Redders
Hands up! The size of the battlefield on Saturday was my fault - I set it up and underestimated what we needed. We sorted that out on Sunday and enlarged it. Sunday's battle was much improved because of the change.

I enjoyed the Sudbury event (despite not managing to find the LH camp late on Friday night even though it was right under my nose...) and the children had a great time being in the skirmish (thanks Lucy and Robert for being mum and dad). The response from the NT sounded very positive so fingers crossed for a return visit next year.
What I didn't enjoy though was the foul cludge left in my firelock after firing on the first day. I couldn't get a single shot off on the second day - touch hole blocked. I realised why when I got home - it was caked in cludge. Even washing the barrel out with black powder solvent didn't shift it. Had to resort to taking the barrel off and knocking a nail into it. What a mess! It looked like it been washed in tar. Did anyone else have trouble cleaning their firelock afterwards or was it just me?

High humidity, depends what FFG rating powder is being used to rate of burn at that humidity, not cleaning out properly between each days shooting, clogging due to too heavy a wadding compacting against powder loads in the breech causing steady build up of residue................any or all of the above can cause breech fouling whilst black powder shooting........which is why i personally enjoy the art of powder shooting, as your never quite sure what the day will bring and that adds to the constant learning curve.
