Can anyone recommend someone who makes decent centre seam mocassins? Me!.......I know Sarah Juniper does them, but bearing in mind their durability (or lack of...), I really do recommend buying one of the US kits to start with....pre-cut & about an hours sewing.......Jury is still out on exactly how old the 'centre-seam' is.....There's a strong school of thought which holds a puckered-toe is more period correct...I've used that for my winter 'boot' ones, but the sewing is a pain in the butt............ I believe Redders/SJ are looking at commercial production for the centre-seam........... Steve

Hmm, I've been trying to buy one of the kits online but am getting no response from the company... Mine,(and Martin's I think) were from Townsend...They're normally pretty good...

Are moccasins worth me making and keeping stock of, or making to order as I do brougues? By the look of the Townsend kit they are suede, because that'll work in a wet climate They would need to be greased a lot. Waxy or pull up would be best I would have thought.

Sarah Juniper gave me a pattern for the mocassins she makes -she suggested to me that plain mocassins were not worth her while (she told me that they are uber simple to make), so I think she's more interested if you require more specialist quill-work, etc.
Still on the subject of mocassins, I read somewhere that there was a definate distinction in pattern for male and female wearers (in a native sense) -I think this is down to the ankle tabs being either whole or split, along the centre back. I will try and ferret out the source for this if it interests others.
